Year R and 1 - Holly Class 2025 - 2026

This half term (Autumn 2) we are reading books by Kes Gray

Pet Day

As part of our topic we have had special visitors visit Holly Class. We have a visit from a doctor, a police officer and 2 fire fighters.

We have enjoyed learning to play tuned percussion instruments in music.

In Holly Class, we took part in Inter Faith week and learnt about Islam. We found out what was special to Muslims, learnt how they celebrate Ramadan and tasted special foods that they eat after Ramadan.

Remembrance Day- We dressed up as evacuees and enjoyed making poppies using the multi-link.

We learnt about bonfire night and fireworks. The children enjoyed creating their own fireworks in different ways.

We have been writing our letters in the learning garden.

The children made their own breakfast pots in DT. They first tried different yoghurts and talked about how they tasted. They tried Greek yoghurt, natural yoghurt, set yoghurt and fromage frais. The children then designed their own breakfast pots. They had to include a type of yoghurt, fruit and cereal. Next they had to cut their fruit using the skills they had learnt when they had made their fruit kebabs earlier in the week. The children made their breakfast pots following their plans and then enjoyed eating them.

The children made some fruit kebabs today. We learnt how to cut the fruit carefully and thread the fruit onto a kebab stick. The children enjoyed putting the fruit on the stick in a pattern. They then tasted their delicious kebabs and described what it tasted like.

We have been reading 'The Three Little Pigs'. We enjoyed acting out the story with the characters and making a new house for the pigs out of junk modelling.

This half term (Autumn 1) we are reading books by Jeanne Willis.

In D.T. we made playground structures.

We read the book 'The Colour Monster'. We talked about the different colour monsters and the feelings they represented. In our groups, we cut out the colour monster that we were feeling and talked about why we felt like this. The children then coloured their colour monster the colour to match the story and wrote about our feelings.

We have been reading 'The Little Red Hen'. The children enjoyed retelling the story and enjoyed making bread just like the Little Red Hen.

Our focus artist this half term is George Seurat. We have learnt that George Seurat was a French artist. He was famous for creating a new style of painting called pointillism. This is when you paint with lots of little dots. The children have explored using a range of different tools to create dots with paint. They explored using a matchstick, a cotton bud and a paintbrush.

Art - Self Portraits

The children enjoyed exploring in their classroom. They enjoyed staying for lunch for the first time.
